Simple Tips to Get Glowing Skin
Gone are the days of slathering layers and layers of makeup to flaunt beautiful skin. Today is the age of minimal makeup that accentuates healthy and glowing skin. Rightly so, women now desire blemish-free, smooth, and glowing skin. There has been never a better time than today when women understand the importance of healthy, glowing, and radiant skin.
One may wonder, we all are born with blemish-free, smooth glowing skin, then what happens during the course of life that our skin loses its glow and luminosity!!
Aging, stress, and lack of sleep are some of the primary causes of loss of sheen and luminosity of the skin.
So does that mean that one may never regain the lost skin glow and luminosity?
Well, the answer is, NO. It is easy to regain glowing, luminous skin with simple tips.
But, to regain healthy, glowing skin, one must practice 3Ps i.e.,
Product, Practice, and Patience.
These 3Ps are the pillars of achieving and maintaining glowing and luminous healthy skin.
Practicing a regular skincare routine with suitable skin care products is the key to achieving luminous and glowing skin.
But then skincare can be very elaborate, hence let us understand how to get glowing skin with the minimum steps of skin care. Here are some of the glowing skin tips:
- A regular skincare routine starts with basic care which includes- CTM i.e., cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.
- Cleaning your skin for 60 sec with a gentle and non-stripping formula, twice a day is the basic care you can give to your skin. Cleansing ensures that skin pores are not clogged. Applying a non-alcoholic toner, post cleansing helps to maintain the pH of the skin. It also prepares your skin for makeup. Well-hydrated skin is supple and luminous, hence hydrating or moisturizing the skin after the toner is a critical skincare step. Selecting a suitable moisturizer, according to skin type, is thus very important. A moisturizing formula enriched with hyaluronic acid, natural glycerin, and other natural herbal or mineral ingredients should be used to maintain skin hydration. CTM is the basic mandatory step of skin care. Use serums. Serums are clear solutions that offer a wide array of benefits like moisturizing, acne treatment, smoothing of wrinkles, and restoration of the epidermal barrier.
- Exfoliating is another key to ensuring clear skin. Exfoliation removes the dead cells over the skin. Dead cells get deposited over the skin making it dull and non-lustrous. Hence, it is important to get rid of dead cells from the skin surface. Exfoliating skin regularly ensures the removal of dead cells from the skin surface. Skin exfoliation can be done with either chemical exfoliators or physical exfoliators. Physical exfoliators are scrubs that contain fine particles along with some enzymes. The physical exfoliators can be used twice or thrice a week to remove the dead cells. On the other hand, chemical exfoliators are more potent and contain either AHAs/BHAs or glycolic acid, etc. Since chemical exfoliators are potent, they should not be used only once or a maximum of twice a week.
- Sun damage is one of the major causes of skin aging, dullness, and hyperpigmentation. UV radiations in the sunlight accelerate extrinsic premature aging making you look older. No one wants to look older than the actual age! Hence, applying the sun protection factor formula is of utmost importance. An SPF of at least 30 indoors and SPF of at least 50 outdoors, after every two hours will provide optimum protection to the skin from sun damage.
- We all have heard that night time/sleep time is the time when our skin heals, and that’s why adding some actives in our night skincare regime can augment skin healing from the damage. We can supplement our skin with active ingredients like vitamin C, retinol, kjoic acid, niacinamide, peptides, and essential oils that can help to skin glow and luminous. Vitamin C is a potent antioxidant and a collagen booster. Hence, a routine application of vitamin C on the skin act as a collagen booster that maintains the elasticity and suppleness of the skin. Niacinamide and Kjoic acid are potent actives that reduce pigmentation leading to an even tone of skin and skin brightening. All these three ingredients i.e., Vitamin C, Niacinamide, and Kjoic acid can be used in both mornings as well as a night time skincare routine. However, one should always follow the use of SPF when using these actives on the skin. For aging skin, retinol is a magic ingredient and is considered to be a gold standard for anti-aging. Retinol act on the skin at multiple levels; it acts as a skin exfoliator as well as a collagen booster. Retinol also increases cell turnover, thus making skin clear. Retinol is readily absorbed from the skin when applied topically. However, concomitant usage of retinol and Vitamin C should be avoided. For best results, one should use, Vitamin C in the morning skincare regime and retinol in the night skincare regime. Include peptide-based products as well, as peptides help synthesize collagen that maintains the elasticity of the skin and delays aging. Daily and regular application of all these ingredients helps to make skin clear, radiant, supple, and luminous. However, the visible effect of these ingredients can only be visibly seen after regular usage of at least three months.
- Apart from the above, for an instant glow, one can do a facial massage with essential oils for a minute or two. The application of ice and facial masks that contain herbal ingredients, seaweed extracts, and other natural ingredients can also help to get that instant party glow.
- Along with regular skin care, one needs to maintain a healthy lifestyle wherein one practices regular exercise, consumption of nutritious and preferably home-cooked food, drinking adequate water, and most importantly, sufficient night time sleep routine to get glowing skin.
Above all, one should never forget the ‘Patience’ of the 3Ps. Maintaining and achieving skin radiance require regular skin care that needs to be carried out religiously without fail to show its effect. Patiently practicing a regular skincare routine is the foremost step to achieving that glow on the skin. One needs to give sufficient time to the skincare ingredients to exert their effect. Hence, using the right products as a regular practice for skin care with patience will give you luminous, supple, glowy, and shining skin.
